LSUS Gold jumped out early on the Blue Team and held on for a 6-4 win, evening the Pilot World Series at one game apiece. Daniel Welch, Matt Clayman, and Chris Marks combined on the mound to hold Pilot Blue in check. Pilot Gold banged out 12 hits with sophomore Brian Arnold pacing the Gold attack with 4 hits. Tyler Williams led Pilot Blue with three RBI’s.

The LSUS Pilots kicked off the 7th annual Pilot World Series yesterday under cloudy, windy conditions at Pilot field. The Blue team took game one of the best of five series with a convincing 9-4 win over the Gold Team. Tyler Lewis threw five strong innings, surrendering two runs on four hits, while striking out two and walking three for Pilot Blue. Blake Pinkston and Josh Wheat finished the game throwing an inning each.

Shreveport, LA---Men’s basketball is returning for its junior year at LSUS with new expectations, new goals, and a roster full of new faces. The Pilots 2005 journey ended with a loss in the round of Sweet 16 at the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City, MO, and a final regular season ranking of #7 in the nation. The season’s last game also brought to an end the college careers of five outstanding young men and extremely talented athletes in the likes of Derrick Hill, Justin Collins, Abraham Saxon, David Walker, and Derrick Rogers. “Those 5 guys will be remembered forever here at LSUS.” Commented head coach Chad McDowell just days after returning from the NAIA national tournament. “They will always be family and will be given credit for helping build our program in such a short amount of time. Replacing these guys will be tough. They are more than just great players; they are great young men and fierce competitors.”
 
Sports stumble in 11th against Senators (6/4/2005)
In the second start of his professional career, Dereck Cunningham looked as if he had been a pro for years. Cunningham, a former LSUS star, had a no-hitter against Jackson through 6 1-3 innings on Friday. Though Carlos Brackley spoiled his shot with a single in the seventh, he did his job by giving the Sports a shot at the win.
 
LSUS lands transfer in Josh Porter (5/25/2005)
Former Southwood High standout Josh Porter will play basketball at LSUS next season after transferring from Stephen F. Ausin. LSU-Shreveport's men's basketball recruiting class picked up its third transfer when former Southwood High School star Josh Porter announced a decision to leave Stephen F. Austin for LSUS.

Pilots head to GCAC Tournament with #1 seed (5/2/2005)
Shreveport, LA - The 2005 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, set for May 4-7 in Jackson, Mississippi, bracket has been set. All games will be played at Millsaps College, beginning with Game 1 at 11:00 am on Wednesday. Game times on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be 11:00 am, 2:30 pm and 6:00 pm. Saturday's championship game(s) will begin at 12:00 pm.
 
Pilots edge Loyola in second game for doubleheader split. (5/1/2005)
The LSU-Shreveport Pilots' offense fluctuated as much as the weather did on Saturday against the Loyola Wolfpack. In game one of the doubleheader, the weather was gloomy and so was the LSUS offense as the Pilots lost in extra innings, 4-3. However, in the second game of the day, the sun was shining bright and so were the faces in the Pilot dugout due to their 7-6 win.

Shreveport, LA---It was a pitching dual all the way on Friday night for the LSUS Pilots against the Loyola Wildcats. However, the Pilots’ James Thomas came out on top with the win, 2-1, and Kevin Jewell (4) picked up the save completing a scoreless ninth inning.

The LSU-Shreveport Pilots' restocking of their men's basketball roster continues with the addition of Louisiana Tech transfer Jeremy Johnston. Johnston is the Pilots' second high-profile transfer this month. Earlier this month, former Tulsa guard Kyle Blankenship announced a decision to transfer to LSUS for his senior season. Johnston will also play his senior season for the Pilots. Both are former All-City players.

Former Byrd High School basketball standout Kyle Blankenship announced a decision Tuesday to transfer from Tulsa to LSU-Shreveport. (4/20/2005)
Blankenship, a 6-foot guard, has one year of eligibility remaining. He will be eligible immediately and play for his former high school coach, Chad McDowell. The Pilots were 27-9 last season and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament.

Shreveport, LA---After a disappointing 3-1 loss in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship final versus the Belhaven College Blazers in 2004, the #12 LSUS Pilots were chomping at the bit to erase the bitter memories of what could have been. With the additions of senior transfer from Arkansas State University Derek Cunningham, Bossier Parish Community College’s Dusty Maddox, the emergence of the GCAC’s leading hitter Dustin Bissonnette, and the return of 6’4 left handed pitcher Frank Kowatz a year after surgery who has compiled a 6-1 record thus far, the Pilots have accumulated a 36-10 record and have clinched their first ever GCAC Championship with six games remaining in the regular season schedule.

SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSUS Pilots had a job to do on Saturday and they did it well. Coming into Saturday’s double header against the University of Mobile Rams, the Pilots had to win the remaining two games of the three game series so they could clinch the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference outright after winning game one of the series 8-6 Friday night. They did their job just the way they should have by winning Saturday’s first game 7-3 behind a solid pitching performance by Derek Cunningham, and picking up an 11-1 victory in five innings to complete the sweep, and wrap up the 2005 GCAC regular season title.

In the second game of the non-conference event, good pitching from Marcus Calhoun and strong offensive innings from the LSUS squad gave the home team a 4-1 win to complete a sweep of the series.

SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSUS Pilots must have wanted to win the hard way Wednesday night against Southern Arkansas University. If not that, they certainly wanted to win it dramatically. After giving up eight runs on three hits, three walks and two hit by pitches, the Pilots lost their 8-2 lead to the Muleriders in the seventh inning. But the Pilots, who have done an excellent job of rallying this season, scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to get the victory, 12-10.

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots have rolled off 9 wins in their last 11 games to improve to 32-10 overall which includes a 17-4 record in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. The Pilots success of late has also elevated them to their highest ranking of the year as the NAIA Baseball Polls were release Wednesday afternoon which saw the Pilots jump two spots to #12.
 
Bissonnette Earns GCAC Player of the Week Honors (4/12/2005)
Dustin Bissonnette of LSUS was chosen player of the week. Bissonnette hit .533 for the week with 5 runs scored, 3 doubles and 4 RBI. Bissonnette continues to improve upon an already impressive season. After an 8-15 performance this week, he has improved his batting average to .449 with a team leading 138 at bats, which also includes a .512 on base percentange and 38 RBI. During his current 7 game hitting streak, Bissonnette is 12-25;he has only been held hitless in 5 of the 39 games he has played this year. Dustin is a junior from Prince George, BC.

Shreveport, LA– It was Pilots all the way on Friday night against the Springhill Badgers as LSUS’ offense exploded for a 10-4 win. The Pilots, now 28-10 overall and 15-4 in conference play, had an excellent offensive showing as well as good pitching efforts to keep them in first place in their conference.

Junior Fredericko Payne was recently named NAIA First Team All-American. Payne, from Dubach, Louisiana, continues to add to his awards for the great year the Pilots had. All ready the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year and All-Conference, he adds All-American to an impressive list of accomplishments.
 
Pilots improve to 27-10 with 9-8 win over Wildcats (4/5/2005)
Pineville, LA---The LSUS Pilots (27-10) squared off against the Louisiana College Wildcats (20-7) Tuesday afternoon in the fourth annual D.A.R.E. Day Baseball Game. In front of 2,500 screaming 4th and 5th graders, the Pilots collected 16 hits on route to a 9-8 victory over the Wildcats.

Jackson, MS---The LSUS Pilots (26-10, 14-4) traveled to Jackson, MS this weekend for a three game series versus the Belhaven College Blazers. Frank Kowatz pitched a career high 8.2 innings allowing 1 run (unearned) while scattering 6 Blazers hits and 2 walks to improve to 4-1 on the season as the Pilots went on to win by a final score of 2-1.

SHREVEPORT, LA. – In a non-conference double-header match-up, the LSUS Pilots battled the University of Central Arkansas Bears on Tuesday. After winning in dramatic, extra inning style in game one, the Pilots fell hard in game two to the visiting Bears.

Cedar Hills, TX---Pilots starter Frank Kowatz (3-1) fell victim to some sloppy Pilot defense who surrendered four unearned runs in the bottom of the first which set the tone for the remainder of the ball game as the Northwood University Knights went on to hand the Pilots their largest loss of the year by a final score of 26-8.
 
Pilots return to top 15 in NAIA with 23-7 start (3/24/2005)
Shreveport, LA---The NAIA released its first top 25 rankings of the 2005 season Thursday afternoon. The LSUS Pilots have found themselves ranked 14th in the country and back in the top 15 for the first time since the pre-season polls in 2004. LSUS has accumulated a 23-7 record through the first half of their season and are currently in top spot in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference at 12-3; two games ahead of the 10-5 University of Mobile Rams.

Dusty Maddox of LSUS was chosen player of the week for the second consecutive week. Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots and William Carey Crusaders locked horns in a double-header Saturday afternoon at Pilot Field. The Crusaders held off a 7th inning Pilot rally and escaped with an 8-6 win in game one, but fell victim to a nine run outburst in the bottom of the third inning in game two which led the Pilots to a 13-11 victory in game two.

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots (18-3) played host to the Northwood University Knights (12-14) in double-header action Tuesday afternoon at Pilot Field. Frank Kowatz faced only 20 Northwood batters in his 6.0 innings of work while allowing only one run on four hits, leading the Pilots to a 7-2 victory over the Knights. The Pilots used 10 stolen bases and a complete game performance from starter Tyler Lewis to take game two from the Knights 7-3, improving their regular season record to 18-3.
 
Pilots survive 68-67 thriller versus Tougaloo to advance to GCAC semi-final (3/3/2005)
New Orleans, LA-Just when one would think that it wasn’t meant for the LSUS Pilots to win their first round game of the GCAC tournament against Tougaloo College, Justin Collins pushed the basketball up the floor with 7 seconds left and dished off to Travis Cash sprinting down the left side of the floor for the winning lay-up with 1.5 seconds remaining. After a desperation shot from Tougaloo that never reached the goal, LSUS limped off the floor with an old tournament motto: “survive and advance.” The Pilots literally were slow to get off the floor as they experienced something on this night that hasn’t happened to them before.

Mobile, AL---The #7 LSUS Lady Pilots 200-2005 season came to end Wednesday morning with a 73-62 loss at the hands of the #2 University of Mobile Lady Rams in round two of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament. The Lady Pilots took a 33-29 lead into the locker room at halftime, but Crystal Coston’s 30 point performance, 19 of which came in the second half proved to be too much for the Lady Pilots.
 
Pilots improve to 14-2 with 9-3 victory over Yellow Jackets (3/1/2005)
Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots erupted for 29 runs versus the NCAA Division III LeTourneau University Yellow Jackets last week but found themselves holding on to a 4-3 ball game heading into the bottom of the eighth versus the Yellow Jackets Tuesday night at Pilot Field. Chris Frye provided the knock-out punch when he belted a first pitch fastball over the left field wall to give the Pilots a 9-3 lead, and their 14th win of the season.
 
Lady Pilots advance to round two of GCAC Tournament with 57-52 win over Tougaloo (3/1/2005)
New Orleans, LA---The LSUS Lady Pilots (13-19) squared of against the Tougaloo College Lady Bulldogs (9-20) Tuesday afternoon at Dillard University in New Orleans to open up the first round of play in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament. The #7 Lady Pilots hung on to defeat the #10 Lady Bulldogs 57-52 for their first ever post-season victory. Saige Cooper led the Lady Pilots with 13 points which included a 4-9 shooting performance from beyond the three-point line. Kendera Monette pitched in with 10 points, while Marcia Spyhalski collected a game high 10 rebounds and 8 points in the victory to advance the Lady Pilots to round two of the GCAC Tournament.

HATTIESBURG, Miss – The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference today announced the players of the week for the week of February 21 - 27, 2005. Fredericko Payne of LSUS was selected as the men's player of the week for the 4th time this season. Payne averaged 22.5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals in leading the Pilots to victories over Dillard and William Carey. He recorded 29 points in the victory over the Crusaders which gave LSUS a share of the regular season conference title and the number 1 seed in the conference tournament. Mobile, AL---The LSUS Pilots (11-2, 4-0 GCAC) took on the Spring Hill College Badgers of Mobile, AL in the first game of a three game Gulf Coast Athletic Conference series Friday night. The Pilots led 5-0 early, but a 5 run bottom of the seventh tied the score at 5-5. The Pilots answered with 3 runs in the top of the 8th inning, and 1 run in the 9th, and held off a Badger rally in the bottom half of the 9th to pull out a 9-7 victory, and improve to 4-0 in GCAC action.

HATTIESBURG, Miss – The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference today announced the baseball pitcher of the week for the week of February 14 - 20, 2005. Derek Cunningham of LSUS is the pitcher of the week. Cunningham was the winning pitcher in the Pilot's 3-0 GCAC victory over Belhaven College. He pitched six innings, allowing one hit, no runs, struck out five and walked two. The only hit was an infield single in the first inning. Cunningham is now 1-0 on the year with 1 save in 8.1 innings pitched. He has held his opponents to a .107 batting average while collecting 8 strikeouts and surrendering only 3 walks. Derek is a senior from Senath, MO.

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots (9-2) and the Belhaven College Blazers (6-5) squared off in a three game series this weekend at Pilot Field to begin the 2005 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference season. In 2004 it was the Blazers who knocked off the Pilots in the GCAC Conference Tournament Championship Game, to denying the Pilots of their chance to defend their region XIV championship title. This weekend however was a different story as the Pilots combined two excellent pitching performances and some timely hitting Friday night to take games one and two, and exploded for 13 runs and 20 hits Saturday afternoon, taking game three by a final score of 13-3, to sweep the three game series.

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots (6-2) traveled to Dallas, TX Wednesday to take on the Paul Quinn University Tigers (2-8) in double-header action. In game one, the Tigers jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but the Pilots offense was too much as they went on to win by a final score of 13-6. Game two was a different story as the Tigers out hit the Pilots, but the Pilots capitalized on 8 walks issued by the Tigers pitching staff by stealing 7 bases and scoring 6 runs on just 3 hits to take game two by a final of 6-1.
 
Lady Pilots lose in double-overtime to Lady Badgers, 76-69 (2/15/2005)
Mobile, AL---Dyamond Hogg shot a 6 foot jump shot that bounced off the glass, to the front of the rim, and trickled out as time expired in the first overtime session, which sent the LSUS Lady Pilots and the Spring Hill College Lady Badgers into a second overtime period. The Lady Badgers made the best of their second chance and went on to win by a final score of 76-69.

Fredericko Payne of LSUS was selected as the men's player of the week. Payne averaged 27.5 points, 3 rebounds and 3.5 steals in leading the Pilots to victories over Belhaven and SUNO. He shot 48.4% from the floor (50% from the three point line) in those two games and 89.5% from the free throw line. He has led the team in scoring the past five games, scoring 20 points or better each game, which has contributed to a six game win streak for LSUS. This is the third time this season that he has been selected GCAC men's player of the week. Fredericko is a 5-10 junior guard from Dubach, Louisiana.

Shreveport, LA---Despite going 2-0 on the week with an 81-78 win over the Southern University of New Orleans and a 101-80 win over Belhaven, the LSUS Pilots dropped one spot in the NAIA national rankings this week. The Pilots are currently ranked 14th in the country with a rematch versus the 3rd ranked University of Mobile Rams scheduled for 7:00pm Saturday night in Mobile, AL. The Rams remain undefeated in the GCAC and are responsible for the Pilots only loss in conference play as they defeated the Pilots 108-101, January 15th, at the Dock.

LSUS was hoping to complete a series sweep versus LC after defeating them 58-46 November 23, however, the Lady Cats shot 55% from the field and finished with a 71-56 over the Lady Pilots.

Shreveport, LA---As the LSUS men’s basketball team huddled around head coach Chad McDowell before taking the floor for their first contest of the year they roared, “1-2-3-TOGETHER!” The Pilots went on to win the tip off resulting in a lay-up and their first basket by Rico Payne, and they never looked back. This was November 6, 2003, the beginning of the LSUS Pilots story. Since then, the Pilots have compiled a 28-14 record, which includes a very impressive 13-1 record at the Dock, and have earned an NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Ranking of 8th.

Shreveport, La—The LSUS Lady Pilots played host to the East Texas Baptist University Lady Tigers Monday night at the Dock. Coming off a tough defeat to Southeastern Louisiana University Friday night, the Lady Pilots came out with some fire and poured in 37 points in the first half; 14 of which were off turnovers created by intense full court pressure applied by the Lady Pilot defense. HATTIESBURG, Mississippi – The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference today released the 2004-2005 Women’s Pre-Season All Conference Team. Xavier University led the way with two selections and one player was selected from each of the other teams. The players were selected by a vote of the league’s coaches. Renalda Stafford was selected from the LSUS Lady Pilots. Stafford led the Lady Pilots in scoring with 13.6ppg and assists with 95.

LSUS names Jed Jones women’s soccer coach (7/29/2004)
LSUS has named former Centenary College coach Jed Jones as its head women’s soccer coach. Jones was the head men’s and women’s soccer coach at Centenary from 1997 to 2004, compiling a 77-45-7 record with the Ladies. At the end of the 2003 season, Jones’ career winning percentage ranked him 44th in NCAA Division I.
 
Pilots fall to Blazers in GCAC Championship Game 5-1 (5/10/2004)
The LSUS Pilots (37-25) managed to fight their way through the losers bracket of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and advanced to the championship game versus the Belhaven College Blazers. The Blazers defeated the Pilots 8-6 in round two of the tournament which sent LSUS to the losers bracket and into a matchup versus the #1 seed William Carey College. The Pilots defeated William carey 4-3 and were forced to watch the afternoon game before suiting up again at 7:00pm to take on Belhaven for the second time in the tournament.
 
Pilots earn championship game birth with wins over Crusaders and Blazers (5/8/2004)
The LSUS PIlots had their backs against the wall when they lost an 8-6 decision to Belhaven College Thursday night. The loss put the Pilots in the losers bracket of the GCAC Tournament and in a matchup versus the #6 ranked William Carey College at 12:00pm Friday. In a game full of emotion and extraordinary defense, the Pilots pulled off a 4-3 victory to keep their season alive.
 
Blazers capitalize on 6 Pilot errors to win 8-6 (5/7/2004)
LSUS jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a first inning homerun off the bat of Chris Frye, his 5th of the season. Belhaven answered with a run of their own in the 3rd.The Blazers added 2 more unearned runs in the 4th and 4 runs in the 5th, none of which were earned. Despite only collecting 5 hits, Belhaven went on to win by a final score of 8-6.
 
Pilots open GCAC Tourney with 9-3 win over Wolfpack (5/5/2004)
The LSUS Pilots (35-23) opened the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with a convincing 9-3 win over the Loyola University Wolfpack. Patrick Jolley opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a solo homerun over the right center field fence. The Pilots threatened to score again in the inning when T.J. Thompson hit a 2 out single to center but Jordy Bias was thrown out at the plate on the play to end the inning.

The LSUS Pilots will be in action at 12:00pm versus the Loyola Wolfpack to open the 2004 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. LSUS (34-21) traveled to Cleveland, MS Tuesday to take on the Delta State Statesman (39-9). The Statesman jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and tacked on 4 more in the second which was enough to defeat the Pilots. The Statesman won by a final score of 11-1.

LSUS (34-20)defeated the Loyola University Wolfpack (19-21) 8-1 Saturday afternoon at the Alario Center in New Orleans. Gene Stevens (6-4) collected his 6th win and 6th complete game of the season in game one of the double header. Stevens collected a season high 9 strike outs. Jeremie Chabot led the Pilots offense with a 2-4 effort which included a second inning grand slam.

LSUS center fielder Chris Frye continued his hot hitting of late with a 2-2 performance in game 1 versus Paul Quinn University Tigers Tuesday afternoon. Frye pitched in with a two run homerun in the fourth inning and a bases loaded triple in the 6th inning to give him 5 RBI and 4 runs scored in the Pilots 16-5 victory over Tigers.

In game one of the double-header versus Texas Wesleyan University, the LSUS Pilots jumped all over the Wesleyan pitching staff, putting up four runs in the first inning, four more in the second, three in the third and four more in the fourth to capture a 15-0, 5 inning mercy rule win over the Rams (25-25).

The LSUS Pilots (26-16) traveled to Alexandria to take on the Louisiana College Wildcats (17-14) for a Tuesday matinee game at Bringhurst Field. The game was sponsored by the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Program) Program and allowed each fifth grader in Rapides Parish to attend the game. Over 2300 5th graders in attendance saw their Wildcats defeat the Pilots for the second time this year by a score of 3-1.

After beating the University of Mobile Rams 10-4 Friday night, the LSUS Pilots looked to add to their 2 game lead over the Rams in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon in double-header action. The Rams jumped out to an early two nothing lead in the top of the first of Pilot ace Gene Stevens who suffered his shortest start of the season, only pitching 3.2 innings while allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits.

Sam Alphonse of Louisiana State University – Shreveport has been chosen the GCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Alphonse, a junior from Fordoche, La., was 2-0 on the week, gaining victories in the Pilots’ 7-4 win over Thomas University and a 3-1 conference win against Spring Hill. He had a 1.00 era with 8 strikeouts in 9 innings pitched.

The LSUS Pilots played host to the Paul Quinn University Fighting Tigers (6-16) at Pilot Field Tuesday night. The Pilots didn’t take long getting to Tigers starting pitcher Bernard Pena as they put 5 runs across in the bottom of the first. After the first inning LSUS had collected 5 runs on 4 hits and collected 6 stolen bases.
 
LSUS Lady Pilots sign Cryer (3/29/2004)
Kacie Cryer, a 5’11” post player who prepped at Teurlings Catholic High School in Lafayette, LA, signed a letter of intent Saturday afternoon at her home in Abbeville, LA. Kacie started at Teurlings Catholic for three seasons, winning the state championship as a sophomore, and finishing as state runner-up her senior season. Kacie averaged 8.5 points per game, and 6 rebounds per game as a senior. She was an All – District selection her sophomore through senior year, and an All – Acadiana Parish selection her junior year. Kacie has been an honor roll student her three years at Teurlings Catholic. She has also been selected as an alternate for the LHSAA All Star game played in July.

Head coach Rocke Musgraves and his LSUS Pilots traveled to Thomasville, GA this past Monday which was day one of the Pilots longest road trip of the year. The Pilots were scheduled to play 7 games over a 5 day span versus teams which LSUS hopes to see in mid-May when NAIA post-season action begins.

The LSUS Pilots were back in action versus the Belhaven College Blazers Saturday afternoon in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play. The Pilots sent Gene Stevens to the mound in game one of the double-header who was hunting for his 4th win of the year. Stevens (3-2) managed to throw all seven innings and only allowed three runs on 8 hits but fell victim to a lack of run support as the Pilots were blanked 3-0.
 
Frye sparks Pilots offense in 8-4 win over Belhaven (3/19/2004)
LSUS (16-9, 8-5) played host to the Belhaven College Blazers Friday night in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference showdown. It was the Blazers who jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Jonathan Robertson capped off the first with a two run homerun off starter Daniel Welch. Belhaven starter Daniel Hearn however was unable to find the strike zone in the first as he walked the first four batters he faced. The Pilots capitalized as they scored 2 runs in the inning without registering a hit.

LSUS (14-9) played host to the Louisiana College Wildcats (14-7) Tuesday night at Pilot Field. The Pilots continued to struggle through the first inning of a ball game as the Wildcats jumped on Pilot starter Levi Montoya (2-1) for two runs in the first inning and tacked on a single run in the second. Montoya was relieved with 2 outs in the second by freshman Wesley Cromer. Montoya suffered the loss in his 1.2 innings of work giving up 3 runs on 4 hits and 1 walk.

The LSUS Pilots (12-7, 5-4) will look to get back on track as they will take on the Loyola University Wolfpack in a three games series this weekend. Game one begins at 6:30pm Friday night, and games two and three will be played in the form of a double-header Saturday with game two beginning at 1:00pm. Loyola is currently one game ahead of the Pilots in the GCAC standings at 6-3 which is currently good enough for second place behind William Carey College who is 8-1.

Pilots split double-header with Northwood (3/10/2004)
The LSUS Pilots (12-7, 5-4) hosted the Northwood University Knights of Dallas, TX Wednesday night in double-header action. In game one LSUS sent Jeremie Chabot (1-1) to the mound looking for his first win of the season. Chabot settled in early as he held the Knights scoreless in his first two innings of work. Northwood chipped away and managed single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings. Chabot’s day was finished when LSUS brought in junior pitcher Sam Alphonse (1-2) to begin the fifth. Alphonse cruised through the Northwood line-up retiring 9 of the 10 batters he faced. Chabot collected his first win of the year in the 4-2 Pilot victory, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits in four innings while Amador suffered the loss for the Knights.

The LSUS Pilots hosted the Le Tourneau University Yellow Jackets Tuesday night at Pilot field looking to build on their current 4 game win streak. Things didn’t look good early as the Yellow Jackets jumped on Pilot starter Jeremie Chabot for 3 runs in the first inning. Le Tourneau was able to build an 8-3 lead by tacking on 2 runs in the fourth inning and 2 more in the fifth.

The LSUS Pilots (8-3, 4-1GCAC) took on the University of Mobile Rams (2-13, 1-4GCAC) in double-header action Saturday. The Rams jumped out on top with 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning off Pilot ace Gene Stevens in game one. Stevens (3-0) settled in after the first and threw 6 straight shut-out innings. The Pilots scratched across single runs in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th innings to earn a 4-3 victory on Stevens third complete game of the year. Mobile managed 3 runs on 7 hits and fanned 4 times versus the Pilots hurler. Pilot senior Andy Mills finished 1-2 and scored 2 of the 4 LSUS runs. Patrick Jolley was 1-4 in the game with 2 RBI.

The LSUS Lady Pilots played host to the Loyola University Wolfpack Thursday night in their last home game of the year. The first time the two teams squared off in New Orleans, the Wolfpack got the best of the Lady Pilots by pulling off a 65-51 victory. The Wolfpack once again took the lead over LSUS in the first half by a score of 37-22, and went on to win by a final score of 60-44.

The LSUS Pilots (18-11) were looking to win their 9th game in their last 10 tries Saturday night when they hosted the Spring Hill College Badgers (14-16, 5-11). Thanks to a second half turnaround after trailing by as many as 11 points, the Pilots defeated the Badgers 72-64 and improved their home record to 11-1.
 
Lady Pilots fall to Spring Hill 75-46 (2/21/2004)
The LSUS Lady Pilots (8-18, 4-12) hosted the Spring Hill Lady Badgers Saturday night in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action. Spring Hill started the first half dominating offensively as they connected on 15-25 from the field including 9 of 13 from beyond the three point line. Spring Hill took a 43-18 lead by the half. LSUS could never recover from the early deficit and fell 75-46 to the Lady Badgers.

In game one the Pilots faced Danny Pedron (1-1) of the Spring Hill College Badgers in game two of the three game series. Pedron got the best of the Pilots offense as he limited them to only one run on 6 hits in 7 innings of work. The lone Pilot run came on a solo blast by Pilot senior Thomas McManis. Sam Alphonse (1-1) suffered his first loss of the year while only giving up 6 hits and one earned run.
 
Pilots win GCAC opener 10-3 over Spring Hill (2/20/2004)
The LSUS Pilots (5-2) hosted the Spring Hill Badgers (2-4) Friday night in the opening game of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference season. Pilot ace Gene Stevens (2-0) threw a complete game and defeated the Badgers 10-3. Stevens improved his record to 2-0 on the year and the Pilots are now 1-0 in the GCAC.

The LSUS Pilots (4-2) squared off against the Le Tourneau University Yellow Jackets (1-4) Thursday night at Pilot Field. It wasn’t until the fifth inning that the Pilots built a 5-2 lead and took control of the game from Yellow Jacket pitcher Demetri Young, who is an NCAA Division I transfer from Kansas State. The Pilots went on to win the game by a final score of 7-2.

LSUS (3-2) traveled to Magnolia, AR Monday afternoon to take on the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (2-2). The Muleriders are an NCAA Division II school in the Gulf South Conference. Senior pitcher Gene Stevens picked up right where he left off the 2003 season as he pitched a complete game, giving up only one run on 5 hits and fanned 4 Vikings hitters. The Pilots won game one by a final score of 2-1, making Stevens 1-0 on the year.

The Xavier Gold Nuggets overcame a two point halftime deficit to defeat the Lady Pilots 62-51. Senior Jackie Tucker led all scorers and recorded her third double-double, with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Ferris Peters, also a senior, added 12 points and six rebounds, for Xavier. Renalda Stafford led LSUS (7-16, 3-11) with 14 points, and Kendera Monette followed with 11 points and a game high 13 rebounds.

Due to the poor weather conditions LSUS has postponed Saturday nights game to Sunday. For the first time in LSUS Baseball history, there will be a triple-header which will begin at 12:00pm. All three games will feature LSUS (1-0)versus Missouri Valley College (1-0).

The LSUS Lady Pilots looked to build on their 5-3 home record when they squared off against the Belhaven Blazers in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play Monday night. Belhaven got the better of the Lady Pilots in December with a 72-57 win. The Lady Pilots entered the game with a 7-14 record, 3-8 in GCAC, one game ahead of the Lady Blazers who stood at 2-9 in conference play. Belhaven however proved to be too much for the Lady Pilots as they won by a score of 65-49.

The William Carey College Crusaders traveled to LSUS Saturday night to take on the LSUS Pilots in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) action. The Pilots (10-10, 3-5) looked to pull within a game of the Crusaders (11-11, 5-3) in the GCAC standings. And they did just that with an impressive 93-87 win over the Crusaders.

The LSUS Lady Pilots played host to the William Carey Lady Saders Saturday night looking for their second Gulf Coast Athletic Conference win of the year. The Lady Pilots were off to a hot start as they shot 11 of 22 in the first half and built a 32-27 by the break. Kendera Monette led all scorers in the half with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Dyamond Hogg had 7 points at the break for the Lady Pilots. Kayla Cooley finished with 7 points leading the Lady Saders.

In men’s hoop action Thursday night, LSUS played host to the Central Baptist College Mustangs. In early season action it was the Mustangs who got the best of the Pilots with an 83-82 victory in Conway, Arkansas. Tonight the Pilots got their revenge with a 100-86 victory over the Mustangs.

The LSUS Pilots were defeated by Northwestern State University Tuesday night 88-80. The loss puts LSUS at 3-4 on the season; the performance put LSUS on the map. Going into the game versus the Demons, many people did not expect much out of the first year basketball program from LSUS when they heard they were taking on the NCAA Division I program from Natchitoches. And nobody expected LSUS to control the first half and lead the contest with 10 minutes remaining in the game. But that is exactly what happened.

Head coach Chad McDowell and his LSUS Pilots stole a victory from the University of Texas at Tyler Patriots Friday night. The Patriots were hosting their first game of the year and were supported by a crowd of 1800 fans in their spectacular new arena.

Lady Pilots Lose in Final Minute (11/22/2003)
The LSUS Lady Pilots traveled to Conway, Arkansas Friday to take on the Hendrix College Warriors. The Lady Pilots found themselves with a two point lead with only two minutes remaining. A couple of three-point baskets made by the Warriors Kacey Sommers near the end of regulation however lifted Hendrix College to a 50-46 victory over LSUS.
 
Lady Pilots Win Home Opener (11/19/2003)
The Lady Pilots took the floor in front of a full house at the LSUS gymnasium Tuesday night. Looking for their first win of the year behind head coach Ronnie Howell, the Pilots took on Texas College of Tyler, Texas. And they got it.
 
LSUS Pilots Win 97-87 (11/19/2003)
After the LSUS Lady Pilots earned their first win of the season Tuesday night, the LSUS men’s basketball team got their first taste of home court advantage against the Texas College Steers. With a sold-out crowd, the Pilots cruised to a 97-87 victory, and improved their record to 2-2 on the season.
 
College of the Ozarks defeat Lady Pilots (11/15/2003)
The LSUS Lady Pilots concluded their stay at the John Brown University Classic in Siloam Springs, Arkansas with a defeat at the hands of the College of the Ozarks Bobcats. In the first half the Bobcats opened up a 13 point lead which they continued to build on in the second half. The final score ended 77-53 in favor of the Bobcats.
 
Golden Eagles Soar Over LSUS Lady Pilots (11/15/2003)
The LSUS Lady Pilots traveled to John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas Tuesday night to compete in the John Brown University Classic. The final game of the evening had LSUS scheduled to play the host team John Brown University Golden Eagles.
 
Bulldogs Take a Bite Out of the Pilots (11/12/2003)
The LSUS men’s basketball team looked to even the score with Jarvis Christian College of Hawkins, Texas Tuesday night after the Lady Bulldogs had defeated the Lady Pilots in the afternoon game. The night-cap however proved to be much of the same as the Bulldogs defeated the Pilots 103-84.
 
Lady Pilots Fall to Bulldogs despite Late Comeback (11/12/2003)
The LSUS Lady Pilots took the floor for the first time in the 2003-04 season Tuesday night versus the Jarvis Christian College Bulldogs. The Bulldogs entered the competition sporting a 2-0 record on the season. Jarvis Christian College did not break stride in the first half as they led the entire way through the frame, taking a 31-24 lead into the locker-room at the half.
 
Pilots Fall Short By a Basket (11/8/2003)
After a win Thursday night versus Bethel College, the LSUS Pilots took the floor searching for their second victory Friday afternoon against the Central Baptist Mustangs. The contest got off to a quick start behind the hand of Pilots guard Chavis Rose who poured in 12 points in the first ten minutes of the half. The first half was a see-saw battle which ended with the Pilots taking a 47-42 lead into the locker room at half time.
 
Pilots Open Season With Win (11/8/2003)
As the LSUS men’s basketball team huddled around head coach Chad McDowell before taking the floor for their first contest of the year they roared, “1-2-3-TOGETHER!” The Pilots went on to win the tip off resulting in a lay-up and their first basket by Rico Payne, and they never looked back.

Pilots land four on NAIA World Series All-Tournament Team (5/31/2003)
Tyson Arishenkoff, shortstop for the LSUS Pilots, won the Gold Glove Award for the 2003 NAIA World Series and, along with three teammates, was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Gold Glove Award goes to the most valuable defensive player in the tournament.
 
LSUS Pilots finish in third place in NAIA World Series! (5/28/2003)
Nationally ranked No. 1, the Oklahoma City University Stars proved to be too much for the LSUS Pilots in the final elimination game of the 2003 NAIA World Series Wednesday night. The Pilots lost 12-2, and bowed out of the tournament in third place behind the Stars and Lewis-Clark State College, the host of the tournament in Lewiston, Idaho.
 
LSUS Pilots advance to Final Four in NAIA World Series (5/27/2003)
Junior pitcher Gene Stevens pitched his second complete game of the NAIA World Series Tuesday as the LSUS Pilots thrashed No. 2 seed Embry-Riddle Eagles, 14-4, and advanced to the Final Four in the tournament.
 
LSUS Pilots advance in NAIA World Series with 8-4 win (5/26/2003)
LSUS Pitcher Levi Montoya went the full nine innings as the Pilots outscored the Spalding University (Louisville, Ky.) Pelicans 8-4 to advance in the losers’ bracket of the NAIA World Series.
 
LSUS drops second World Series game to nation’s No. 1 (5/25/2003)
The Oklahoma City Stars, No. 1 in the nation all season in the NAIA rankings, proved to be too much for the LSUS Pilots Saturday night and Sunday morning in the Pilots’ second NAIA World Series game. The Stars’ powerful lineup scored runs in every inning after a 1-hour-27-minute rain delay in the top of the third inning.
 
‘Mercy rule’ invoked in seventh for Pilots’ first World Series win (5/23/2003)
The LSUS Pilots pounded the Indiana Tech Warriors for 11 runs by the seventh inning of Pilots’ first NAIA World Series appearance, invoking the 10-run “mercy rule” for the 11-1 win.

LSUS Pilots open NAIA World Series play Friday (5/21/2003)
The LSUS Pilots begin play in the NAIA World Series at 2 p.m. (CDT) Friday (May 23) in Lewiston, Idaho, against the Indiana Tech Warriors. The Pilots are the No. 8 seed in the NAIA’s national baseball tournament and the Warriors are the No. 9 seed.
 
LSUS to host Embry-Riddle in NAIA Super Regional (5/12/2003)
The LSUS Pilots, who won the NAIA Region XIII baseball championship with two one-run wins Saturday, will host the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles in the best of three Atlantic South Super Regional series beginning Thursday.
 
LSUS Pilots win NAIA Region XIII Baseball Tournament (5/11/2003)
The LSUS Pilots took two one-run games from William Carey College Saturday to win the NAIA Region XIII Baseball Tournament. The Pilots move to the Super Regional Tournament this week. Their first opponent will be the Embry-Riddle (Daytona Beach, Fla.) Eagles, who won the Region XIV tournament. The day, time and location of that game have yet to be announced.
 
Pilots hold off Mobile, 8-6, for NAIA win (5/8/2003)
The LSUS Pilots held off a late charge by the University of Mobile to stay undefeated in the NAIA Region XIII tournament at Hattiesburg, Miss.
 
LSUS Pilots win first-ever NAIA tournament game (5/7/2003)
The LSUS Pilots, playing in their first-ever NAIA baseball tournament game, defeated North Georgia, 10-4. Senior pitcher Gene Stevens recorded his 11th win of the season as the Pilots improved their all-time school high season record to 43-20.
 
LSUS to make first-ever appearance in NAIA championship (5/6/2003)
The LSUS Pilots will face North Georgia College at 3.p.m. Wednesday in its first-ever appearance in the NAIA baseball championship tournament. The game will be played in Hattiesburg, Miss.
 
Tatum, Texas, standout signs with LSUS basketball (4/16/2003)
Saige Cooper, an athletic and academic standout at Union Grove High School, has signed to attend and play basketball at LSUS.
 
LSUS names Ronnie Howell women’s basketball coach (1/27/2003)
LSUS has named Bossier High School boys’ basketball coach Ronnie Howell as the university’s head women’s basketball coach. Before moving to Bossier High School, Howell was head girls’ basketball coach for five years at C. E. Byrd High School.
 
LSUS names Chad McDowell men’s basketball coach (1/9/2003)
LSUS has named former school standout Chad McDowell as its men’s basketball coach. The university’s chancellor, Dr. Vince Marsala, and its new athletic director, Doug Robinson, made the announcement.
