Thank you for your interest in the LSUS Spirit Groups! These groups are designed to promote school spirit throughout the campus and the community. As a part of the spirit groups we recognize that you are first a student-athlete. There is a minimum GPA requirement each semester and we do our best to schedule practices around school schedules..
DANCELINE
The LSUS Dance Line focuses on half-time performances for men’s and women’s basketball. They perform at every home game and various University events. The Dance Line practices 2-3 times a week for 3 hours at a time. These days and times vary depending on the team’s school schedule. Members are also expected to participate in fundraising such as concession stands, kiddie-camps and raffles.
The Dance Line is coached and choreographed by Shasta Hayes whose expertise is in hip-hop, pom and jazz. Shasta is a native of Shreveport and has coached many teams in the area. She works the team hard on conditioning, technique and choreography.
In order to try out for the LSUS Dance Line, candidates will attend a clinic prior to tryouts. Candidates will be taught dance routines to perform and will also work on technique. Currently there are no scholarships for Dance Line but we do strive to pay for all uniforms, equipment, trips, etc. so that nothing has to come out of pocket for the team members.

CHEERLEADING
The LSUS Cheerleading team performs at all home basketball games. Cheerleaders may also be asked to perform at other LSUS events as well as participate in fund raising. Team members are required to attend practice on 3-4 times a week. No cheering experience is necessary to try out for the team, but skills such as jumping, stunting, and tumbling will earn candidates extra points. Candidates are required to attend a one day clinic prior to tryouts. There they will learn a cheer, a chant and a dance. Candidates should also be prepared to show any tumbling and stunting skills.
The Cheerleading team is coached by Kima Ball. Kima is from Shreveport and coaches cheer and gymnastics for other area groups as well. There are currently no scholarships available for cheerleaders but we strive to pay for all uniforms, equipment, trips, etc. so that nothing has to come out of pocket for the team members.
