About the Foundation

The LSU in Shreveport Foundation was established in 1983 as the University Associates.  The name was changed in 1990 to better identify the organization as the official foundation for the university.  The Foundation is a nonprofit and tax-exempt organization. 

The mission of the Foundation is to foster private financial support for LSUS, manage investments, and to serve as trustee for funds and other assets contributed.  The Foundation is governed by its own elected board of directors.

Membership in the Foundation requires an annual contribution of a minimum of $1,000, or $500 for individuals under the age of 40 as well as LSUS faculty and staff.  Contributions may be restricted or unrestricted to be used as needed.  Resources raised through the Foundation provide scholarships, support research and faculty development, and afford discretionary funds to fuel continued growth and success for the university. 

In 1996 a commitment was made by the university to expand fund raising. The position of Vice Chancellor for Development was established to oversee university-wide fund raising initiatives and the Foundation.  At that time, Foundation endowment was at $2 million and included one endowed chair, one endowed professorship, and $300,000 in endowed scholarships. 

In the Fall of 1996 the Foundation committed to the first ever campaign in support of the university, the LSUS 30th Anniversary Campaign to Build Academic Endowment, with a goal to raise $1 million.  The campaign concluded in 2000 with $2,225,000 in contributions and pledges raised.

As of June 30, 2006, Foundation assets total more than $10 million and include three endowed chairs, two endowed super professorships, 15 endowed professorships, and seven partially funded professorships.  The LSUS Foundation currently has more than $2 million in endowed scholarships and provides over $250,000 in scholarship assistance each year to deserving students.  The Foundation has more than 270 individual and corporate memberships.
