Delton Harrison, Bobbie Hicks and George A. Khoury Jr.The LSU in Shreveport Foundation, Inc. was established in 1983 to formalize and extend the close relationship of the community’s leadership with LSUS.  The initial title of this organization was University Associates.  The name was changed in 1990 to better identify the organization as the official foundation for the university.  The LSUS Foundation is a nonprofit and tax-exempt organization.

The Foundation provides the means whereby the university can seek the wise counsel and experienced judgment of an honor group of individuals who share the desire to provide support and to become closely associated with each other in programs of social, educational, community and regional interest.

The mission of the Foundation is to foster private financial support for LSUS, manage investments, and to serve as trustee for funds and other assets contributed.  The Foundation is governed by its own elected board of directors.

To date, the Foundation has been responsible for establishing a significant scholarship program for outstanding and promising students, funding an awards program to recognize outstanding performance by the university’s faculty, providing research and faculty development funds, and promoting and funding a distinguished lecture series in partnership with various university programs.   As of June 30, 2006, Foundation assets total more than $10 million including four endowed chairs, two endowed super professorships, and 15 endowed professorships.  The Foundation has more than $2 million in endowed scholarships and provides over $250,000 in scholarship assistance each year to deserving students.
