| Photograph Exhibition at LSU Shreveport Offers Glimpse of 1930s in Northwest Louisiana (11/5/2009) |
A grouping of 1930s-era photographs from LSUS Archives and Special Collections will be on display in the University Center first floor gallery through December 4, 2009. The exhibit’s title, “Depression: NW Louisiana 1929-1939,” is intentionally ironic. Much like today, northwest Louisiana seems to have withstood the Great Depression of the 1930s considerably better than many other parts of the United States. In fact, in that infamous decade of national struggle northwest Louisiana made dramatic progress. |

| Galileo Event Planned at LSUS (10/5/2009) |

| Enrollment at LSU Shreveport Increases 8.76% (9/21/2009) |
| For the second year in a row, LSU Shreveport is reporting an increase in enrollment. For the fall semester, LSUS is reporting 4667 students, which is an increase of 8.76%. This includes an increase in reentry (7.14%) and transfer (23.25%) students. |
| $100,000 Anderson Oil and Gas Donation Supports the Red River Watershed Management Institute (8/26/2009) |
LSU Shreveport is pleased to announce the gift of $100,000 from Anderson Oil and Gas for the Red River Watershed Management Institute. The gift will help complete the development of the Institute’s field station facility. The LSUS Red River Watershed Management Institute has planned the construction of the station on university property bordering the oxbow lake, Old River Lake, at the Red River Education and Research Park. |
| LSUS Institute in Top Five of all U.S. Certifying Institutions (8/25/2009) |
| The LSUS Institute for Human Services and Public Policy was recently named one of the top five certifying institutions for the American Humanics National Certification in Nonprofit Management and Leadership by the American Humanics National Alumni Association. The LSUS American Humanics National Certification Program has been certifying undergraduate and graduate students since 1995. |

| LSU Shreveport has a new presence on the most popular social networking site on the Internet. The new LSU Shreveport Facebook page is a helpful tool for future students and parents to connect with each other and faculty, staff, students, alumni and other members of the LSUS family. |
| School of R.O.C.K. Receives Grant for 2010 (8/3/2009) |
| The School of R.O.C.K. (Reading and Organization for Cool Kids), a three week summer reading camp for children with reading challenges, has been awarded a grant in the amount of $17,950 from The Community Foundation of Shreveport-Bossier. |
| LaPREP Receives Grant from The Community Foundation (7/22/2009) |
LaPREP, a two-summer math and science enrichment program for middle and early high school students, has been awarded a grant in the amount of $65,647 from The Community Foundation of Shreveport-Bossier – Eugenie Torr Gras and Justin Gras Fund. The grant will allow LaPREP to continue the program into 2010 which was questionable after a veto by Governor Bobby Jindal cut $250,000 earmarked for the program in the 2009-2010 state budget. |

| Jennifer LaPierre, Director of Media and Public Relations, received the 2009 LSUS Deans’ Award. The purpose of the Deans’ Award is to recognize an LSU Shreveport faculty or staff member who supports the academic programs in an exemplary way. |
| LSUS Joins YOUniversityTV for Prospective Students (6/30/2009) |
| LSU Shreveport has joined YOUniversityTV.com, a new college video resource community for prospective students. The website offers an interactive virtual environment that allows prospective students to explore universities across the United States without leaving their home. |
| College of Business Administration Outstanding Teaching, Research and Service Awards (6/24/2009) |
| Three LSU Shreveport faculty members in the College of Business Administration received awards for their contribution to the college in teaching, research and service. Dr. Richard Peters received an award in teaching, Dr. Binshan Lin in research, and Dr. Sanjay Menon in service. An additional award was given to Mike Simon for his dedication to the college. |

| The LSU Shreveport Alumni Association recently announced its 2009-2010 Board of Directors. The new president is Scott R. Wolf, J.D. (BCJ ’96), associate with Blanchard, Walker, O’Quin & Roberts. Serving as vice president is Brian K. Wooten, M.A. (BS ’91), executive director, Brentwood Research Institute. The treasurer is David B. Harmon (BA ’78), owner/president, Whitehall Land Services. The secretary is Richard C. Young, CFSP, (BGS ’77), owner/president Young Equipment Solutions, Inc. |
| LSUS Announces New Accounting Professorship (6/4/2009) |
The LSUS Foundation and Louisiana State University in Shreveport are pleased to announce a new accounting professorship in the College of Business Administration. Pete and Linda Ballard, friends of LSUS, gave $60,000 to the university which will receive matching funds from the State of Louisiana Board of Regents to establish the Pete and Linda Ballard Endowed Professorship in Accounting. |

| The LSU Shreveport Department of Kinesiology and Health Science received an $18,000 grant from the Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living, an Affiliated Program of the Louisiana Public Health Institute. |
| Chancellor’s & Dean’s Lists Announced (5/27/2009) |
| Louisiana State University in Shreveport is pleased to announce the Spring 2009 Chancellor’s List and Dean’s List. These full-time undergraduate students have a semester grade point average of at least 3.5. Students on the Chancellor's List have a semester GPA of 3.8 to 4.0. Students on the Deans' List have a semester GPA of 3.5 to 3.79. |
| LSUS Receives $90,000 from Simon Family (5/27/2009) |
| The LSUS Foundation is pleased to announce the generous gift of $90,000 from Bruce and Steve Simon, both of Shreveport, Louisiana, in memory of their parents Barbara and Elmer Simon, Jr. The gift will be used to establish the Bruce and Steve Simon Endowed Professorship with matching funds from the State of Louisiana Board of Regents. The remainder will be distributed among the current professorship holders in lieu of their individual professorship stipends, which were not given this year due to market conditions. |
