For the second year in a row, LSU Shreveport is reporting an increase in enrollment. For the fall semester, LSUS is reporting 4667 students, which is an increase of 8.76%. This includes an increase in reentry (7.14%) and transfer (23.25%) students. Total undergraduate enrollment is 4220 students, an increase of 8.12% compared to fall of 2008. Total graduate enrollment is 447 students, an increase of 15.21% compared to fall of 2008. The university’s Dual Enrollment program also increased 49.37% compared to last fall. Dual Enrollment is a program that allows high school students to earn college credit while in high school. “The continued enrollment growth is very encouraging,” said Mickey Diez, dean of Enrollment Services and Registrar. “Our current students, faculty, and staff continue to do an excellent job with our enrollment efforts. We are especially appreciative of the cooperation and support of the high school and community colleges who welcomed our admissions counselors this past year.” Undergraduate programs that experienced the largest enrollment increases were speech, physics and community health. Graduate programs that saw the largest increase were the Master of Business Administration, which includes the newly-implemented Executive Track MBA, Master of Liberal Arts and Master of Health Administration. Retention of first-time, full-time freshmen also increased. In addition, the last two years have seen a record number of degrees awarded with 635 in 2007-2008 and 639 in 2008-2009. |
