Mike Woods
A 1975 LSUS graduate, Mike Woods was born and raised in Shreveport and has been an important contributor to the success of the university for many years. He currently serves on the LSUS Foundation Board of Directors as vice president, and is president elect for 2004-2005 where he will follow in the footsteps of his father, Dalton Woods, who was president from 1989 – 1991.
He is a past member of the LSUS Alumni Board of Directors, and the LSUS Athletic Committee. In addition, he is a former professor of environmental law at LSUS. He is the chair of the annual RiverBend Revue Community Steering Committee overseeing the university’s premiere fund-raising event, which has grown from raising $40,000 in its first year to raising more than $100,000 in 2003.
Mike, who is currently involved in his family’s oil and gas business, has also compiled a very impressive political career. A life long Republican, he is Congressman Jim McCrery’s finance chairman, a member of the Republican State Central Committee, and was a Louisiana elector in the 2000 Electoral College.
He is committed to improving education, especially higher education in Louisiana. He was appointed by Gov. Mike Foster to the Board of Trustees of the University of Louisiana System, which oversees Louisiana Tech, University of Louisiana Monroe, Grambling State University, and others and is currently chairman of the Board.
He is married to Tracie Woods, who is a prominent community supporter in her own right. She has been an active volunteer with Shreveport’s Providence House, which provides help for homeless families, and is chair-elect for the organization.
Mike is the father of four children. He is also very active at First Baptist Church where he is a Deacon and Sunday school teacher.
