Drive-In Movie Theater Fundraiser at LSUS

February 28, 2014

Starry Night

Shreveport, Louisiana - The LSUS Foundation is using a unique approach to raise much-needed funds for LSU in Shreveport while also spreading what they call the $1,000,000 secret.

"The $1,000,000 secret is the fact that, on average, $1,100,000 is the difference in earnings between a high school graduate and a college graduate.  We want people to know this and how cost-effective LSUS is for getting that degree," said Laura Perdue, Foundation executive director. The LSUS Foundation is raising funds for LSUS scholarships and programs while also spreading awareness of the campus' affordability with STARRY NIGHT, a Drive-In Movie Theater Fundraiser. For one night, and one night only on April 12, starting at 6PM, a campus parking lot will convert into the nostalgic event.

The drive-in experience is being organized to be as authentic as possible with a huge screen, FM transmitters piping sound right through the car speakers, and bounce houses for those looking to bring the children and make it a family affair. But, the Foundation is adding a special touch. The VIP Date Night Package at $150 admits two for premiere parking selection and access to the VIP Backstage Lounge complete with concessions fit for Hollywood's elite and an open bar. The Family Fun experience admits four for $100 and includes early admission, complimentary retro concessions, and the movie. Packages are on sale now with a limited number of individual admissions to be released in March.

The movie is being voted on by sponsors and hints are going up daily on the LSUS Foundation's Facebook and the website, The film is family friendly with the final contenders being musicals and lending themselves to dressing up in the days of the 50's.  Costume contests are planned and the LSUS Alumni Association will host a silent auction. The website provides information on packages, contests, sponsorship benefits and rain date information.

Foundation Board President, T. Brian Bond said, "The goal is to raise $60,000 to help support scholarships and other programs at LSUS. These monies are crucial to the University during this time of shrinking government support for higher education. We have to be creative in our approaches, but we also think this event will be fun and introduce some new people to our campus."
