LSU Shreveport to be Featured on C-SPAN Programs

During the week of February 6-10, 2012, C-SPAN producers will visit various literary and historic sites interviewing local historians, authors and civic leaders for upcoming programming featuring Shreveport's history and literary life. Several LSU Shreveport professors and campus landmarks will be feature.

Visits to the LSUS campus will include the Pioneer Heritage Center where Director Marty Young will discuss mid-19th century medicine. Associate Professor of History and Director of the Red River Regional Studies Center Dr. Gary Joiner will discuss the history of Shreveport. Assistant Professor of History Alex Mikaberidze will discuss his book, "The Battle of the Berezina: Napoleon's Great Escape." Assitant Professor of History Dr. Cheryl White will discuss historaic Shreveport crime and the lives of Bonnie and Clyde in Shreveport. C-SPAN will also tour the Archives and Special Collections in the Noel Memorial Library.

A special public kick-off event with The Honorable Mayor Cedric Glover, Caddo Parish Commissioner Ken Epperson, Sr. (District 12), Comcast General Manager Tom Rice and C-SPAN will be held Monday, February 6 at 2p.m. in the Government Plaza lobby at 505 Travis Street. Many of the featured authors and historians will be at the event. The public is invited to attend.

Shreveport is one of six south-central American cities being featured in C-SPAN's 2012 "Local Content Vehicles Cities Tour." Other cities include Beaumont, Texas; Little Rock, Ark.; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Wichita, Kan. and Jefferson City, Mo.

C-SPAN has named the regional circuit of cities as its 2012 LCV Cities Tour. The C-SPAN producers are travelling in specially detailed Ford Transit Connect vehicles, which C-SPAN is calling Local Content Vehicles (LCV's). Outfitted with the most current digital camera, editing and other recording technologies, each member of the LCV team is equipped to shoot and edit video on location as well as make presentations to the community about the work they do for the network.

The programs C-SPAN shoots and produces in Shreveport will air during a special Shreveport feature weekend March 3 and 4 on BookTV (C-SPAN 2) and American History TV (C-SPAN 3).
