The LSU Shreveport Fall Commencement ceremony is set for Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 2 p.m. at CenturyLink Center in Bossier City, LA. Among the participants, 298 degrees will be awarded to graduates that have completed programs in the College of Arts & Sciences, and the College of Business, Education and Human Development in either the Summer 2014 or Fall 2014 sessions.

"Our graduates are beginning a new and bright future that each and every one of them has worked so hard to build,” said Chancellor of LSU Shreveport, Larry Clark. “Our wish for them is that they remember everything they have learned at LSU Shreveport and go forward with the confidence that they are primed and ready for all that lies ahead.”

The commencement address will be given by Dr. Gary D. Joiner.  He is a Professor of History at Louisiana State University Shreveport and serves as the Chair of the Department of History and Social Sciences, where he holds the Mary Anne and Leonard Selber Professorship in History and serves as the Director of the Red River Regional Studies Center.  He is an inspiration to students and continues to inspire academics of all ages.

Gary D. Joiner received a B.A. in history and geography from Louisiana Tech University, a M.A. in history from Louisiana Tech University and a Ph.D. in history from St. Martin’s College, Lancaster University in the United Kingdom.

He is the author or editor of 21 books including: History Matters, Shiloh and the Western Campaign of 1862, One Damn Blunder From Beginning to End, Through the Howling Wilderness, The Red River Campaign: The Union’s Last Attempt to Invade Texas, No Pardons to Ask Nor Apologies to Make, Little to Eat and Thin Mud to Drink, Mr. Lincoln's Brown Water Navy, Red River Steamboats, Historic Shreveport-Bossier, Lost Shreveport: Vanishing Scenes From the Red River Valley, Historic Haunts of Shreveport and Wicked Shreveport .  Dr. Joiner is also the author of numerous articles and technical reports and served as a consultant for ABC, the Associated Press, A&E Network, C-SPAN, the Discovery Network, HGTV, the History Channel, MSNBC, MTV, and SyFy among others.
