LSUS Men’s Basketball Head Coach Blankenship Wins 200th Game, says ‘It’s About the Team’

January 22, 2021

Shreveport, LA-Tuesday's 96-65 win for the No. 2 LSUS Men's Basketball team over the Southwest Mustangs was a historic victory in many ways. Not only does it run the Pilots' home winning streak to 33 games and their overall streak to 25 games, but it was the 200th win in the magnificent coaching career of Head Coach Kyle Blankenship. The victory has them unblemished at 11-0 on the season and now 3-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC).

"Tonight was 200 wins for me here at LSUS," Blankenship said in a postgame interview. "I wasn't really aware of that, and it was brought to my attention. In the locker room, I never talk about that because it's not about me. It's about this program and the kids that wins those games. They threw water on me to celebrate, and that was pretty cool and pretty fun. It was pretty sweet of my assistant coaches to recognize that."

In only 270 games at the helm of the Pilots, Blankenship now has 200 victories to celebrate. His winning percentage is at 74 percent in his ninth season as the man calling the shots. Blankenship's incredible coaching accomplishments piggyback off of his great playing career in a LSUS uniform. He's the definition of a true Pilot and has continued to pour his heart and hard work into the program in Shreveport. The team's current 25-game winning streak is the perfect example of what happens when a great coach recruits great players who buy into a great system.

"It's about the team," Blankenship said. "There have been a lot of kids that have come through our program and helped us win that many ball games, and we just try to go 1-0 every game. Every day that's what we want to do. We want to be 1-0 and of course tonight we added to that total."
