LSUS Professor William D. Pederson Receives Leadership Award in Ecuador

LSUS Professor William D. Pederson Receives Leadership Award in Ecuador

Dr. William D. Pederson, professor of political science and the American Studies Endowed Chair at LSUS, was presented the 2015 Association of Third World Studies (ATWS) Outstanding Leadership Award at the 33rd annual conference of the ATWS held in Quito, Ecuador on Nov. 22-24.

Pederson is the longest-serving executive director of the ATWS, having served in that position for a decade. He presented two papers at the conference:  "Harold Isaacs, Abraham Lincoln and the ATWS"  and "Precursor to Nelson Mandela: 'Cry, the Beloved Country.'" 

While in Quito, he was a guest of the Lincoln Library at the U.S. Embassy, and guest of the Abraham Lincoln Primary School where he delivered an address to its faculty.

The ATWS is the largest professional organization in the world devoted to the study of cultures in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Oceania/the Pacific Islands.  It publishes the quarterly Journal of Third World Studies.
