LSUS Scholars in Communication Recognized

November 16, 2012

The LSUS Department of Communications recognized the Fall 2012 Scholars in Communication on Friday evening, November 9, at a candlelight ceremony in Bronson Hall. The students, who are selected by the faculty from among those Mass Communication and Speech majors, must have a record of outstanding academic achievement and professional accomplishment.

Five of the scholars are studying public relations: Linda Clayton, Rani Graff, Mercedes Taylor, Julie Thomas, and Rebecca Wheeler. The Public Relations Association of Louisiana (PRAL), Northwest Chapter was represented at the ceremony by president Christy Canady and membership vice-president Karen Wissing who presented certificate of student membership to Graff, Taylor, and Wheeler.

Crystal Vandegriff is a journalism student who is serving as an editor for the Almagest student newspaper and will step into the role of managing editor for the spring, 2013, semester.

The scholarship is funded by royalties from the sale of the public speaking textbook, Introduction to Public Speaking. Scholars are named each semester after application and selection processes have been completed.
