Honoring the commitment to education of its founders, James S. and Ruth Herring Noel, the Noel Foundation’s Board of Directors have announced their recent decision to increase scholarship funding for students attending Louisiana State University in Shreveport.

For the 2014-15 academic year the Foundation will fund thirty-five $4,000 scholarships totaling $140,000.  Beginning in 2015-16, the Foundation will add three more scholarships and increase its funding to $152,000.  This increase represents almost a tripling of the Foundation’s scholarship awards to LSUS students.

“The desire of the Foundation’s Board of Directors is to make college education affordable and to reward outstanding students for their diligence,” said Dr. Robert Leitz, President of the Noel Foundation.  “We have been able to see firsthand how big of a difference one scholarship can mean to these students.  It is an honor and brings us joy to be able to do more for them.”

In making these awards, the Noel Foundation has developed a comprehensive scholarship program for students attending LSUS.  While retaining four-year scholarships for first-time freshmen, the Foundation is adding ten (10) more two-year scholarships to the ten it established last year for transfer students from Bossier Parish Community College and Southern University Shreveport/Bossier.

The recent expanded funding will create six (6) two-year scholarships for current students at LSUS who are in their junior or senior year.  In addition, eight (8) two-year scholarships will be created for graduate students, just in time for students enrolling in the new Doctor of Education in Leadership Studies.

“It is very humbling to see a group of people so dedicated to making a difference and providing resources to our future leaders.   These scholarships ensure our students’ success and give them the jump start that they need,” said Dr. Paul Sisson, Interim Chancellor at LSUS.
