United States Debate Team with LSUS students wins Montgomery Cup against the British

March 18, 2015

(London, England) The US team made it very close Tuesday night but still pulled out the overall win in the 18th annual Montgomery Cup against the British with a final score of 19 to 17.

After wins against Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt and Durham, and ties with St. Andrews and Glasgow, the US team faced Imperial College only needing 1 point to take the Cup.  Imperial put on a great performance and 1 point was all the Americans earned.  LSUS' Madelyn Snead teamed up with UCM's Matt Gilmore as Second Opposition and earned the last point for the Americans winning the Cup outright.

LSUS Team Captain Colby Walker said "Imperial was a gracious host and though we faced our first loss, it was a great debate to end the Cup on."  A relieved Madelyn Snead said, "I am just happy we were able to get that last point."

Assistant United States coach and LSUS Director of Debate Trey Gibson stated, "I am very proud of all of the American team members and especially proud of how our LSUS students represented their country, state and school".

The LSU Shreveport debate representatives should get back to Shreveport early in the morning on Saturday and then fly out with the rest of the team next Thursday for the IPDA Tournament National Championships in Boise, Idaho.

The team would like to thank all of its supporters and would encourage all to follow them on Facebook.  For more information contact Brooke Rinaudo, Director of Media and Public Relations at LSU Shreveport, at 318-797-5108.
