Initially, a two-year college, LSUS has expanded into an internationally recognized institution with 25 undergraduate degree programs, a dozen master's degree programs, and more recently a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership Studies. Throughout its 50 years of existence, LSUS has experienced its fair share of challenges and hardships, but it has grown into an innovative leader for northwest Louisiana and is continuously listed in the top 50 in the nation for affordability. "Sam Ortiz is a social worker at The Philadelphia Center, working with low-income individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Sam is also a community activist who volunteers for various organizations in Shreveport and is the co-creator of Shreveport Q-Prom; an inclusive yearly event held to commemorate Pride Month."
