An entrepreneur is a determined individual willing to take on the risks of starting a new business to gain the independence of being a business owner. Entrepreneurs need a strong, solid background in all business disciplines and specific understanding of how to apply those skills in their own endeavors. It is hard to predict an annual income as an entrepreneur. While the average annual earnings are about $68,000 a year, some entrepreneurs earn millions and others are less successful (www.entrepreneur.com). An entrepreneur needs fortitude, the ability to learn from setbacks, and the creative skills to strategically continue to move forward. When questioned about his “failures” during his efforts to invent a light bulb, Thomas Edison is famous for stating “I have not failed 10,000 times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those 10,000 ways will not work.
