Shreveport, LA – LSUS Continuing Education is bringing back the power of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) with summer day camps for kids and teens in the community. LSUS youth camp programs offer fun and educational experiences to stem the summer slide. Kids ages six to seventeen can discover a variety of interests, meet new friends, and create memories that last a lifetime.
“Offering the STEAM summer camp continuum at LSUS is important to this community to reinforce and further educational concepts that have been taught throughout the academic year,” said Dr. Julie Lessiter, Ed.D., Vice Chancellor of Strategic Initiatives for LSU Shreveport. “Students will engage in ‘learning by doing’ activities that enhance the excitement in STEAM concepts, while also being fun. We believe it’s part of our mission to support and further the educational opportunities for kids within this region; we’ll have a lot of fun and do a lot of learning with courses integrating our talented faculty and students.”
Throughout the June and July LSUS summer camps, kids can build problem-solving and critical thinking skills through collaborative hands-on learning. Each summer camp is equipped with the tools and activities to engage children’s imaginations and encourage exploration of interests. “The LSUS Cyber Collaboratory is a state-of-the-art immersive learning space where students can come together to discuss, research, and create their visions utilizing the latest technology,” said Nessa Kuruvilla, K-12 Coordinator for the LSUS Cyber Collaboratory. “From 3D printing, to robotics, virtual reality, and even esports, there are a wide range of technologies available for almost any project, the sky’s the limit!”
Summer is the perfect opportunity for kids’ abilities to soar as they develop new modes of thinking, express ideas through art, and play team-building sports. LSUS is full STEAM ahead for summer camps, with new camp offerings and the return of top-level favorites, including Soccer with Radi Baltov. “Come and join me and many of the best north Louisiana players at the LSUS Continuing Education soccer camp,” said Coach Radostin Baltov. “For the last 23 years, this camp has helped thousands of soccer players with their development. It is challenging but also fun at the same time!”
Summer day camp registration opened to the public March 15, 2022. Call 318-798-4177 or visit https://www.lsus.edu/continuing-education/youth for the details and to register.
