Finals week begins on May 1 for all students at LSUS. Counseling Services and the Academic Success Center are preparing for the masses of students needing assistance during this time with different initiatives.

Counseling Services provides free mental health services and support services for all students in need. Final exams are no exception to that.

Counseling Services is hosting Nap Time: A Guided Meditation on both Apr. 24 and May 3 to allow students to experience atypical stress reduction techniques. A public art therapy session will be held on Apr. 26 to encourage relaxation.

Director of Counseling Services Kendal Redel has spearheaded these events. “Viewing finals as a temporary stressor can help you remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” Redel said when asked for advice about final exams.

The Academic Success Center has also planned an important initiative to help students. They will be giving out free kits including scantrons, candy and pencils on May 1 at 10 a.m. in the Student Success Center. The SSC is located on the first floor of the Noel Memorial Library.

“Students can also utilize the SSC to study on their own as well; it is a quiet space with whiteboards, outlets for electronics, and snacks on Fridays,” Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Student Success Initiatives Angie Pellerin said.
