Biography

Dr. Dunnavent teaches American history courses for the Department of History & Social Sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences. He has and continues to work with the U.S. armed forces. He spoke too 2MARDIV (2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune) about interdicting narco-guerillas in Colombia and Peru, and the U.S.M.C. Adopted his first book as a training manual for Marines deployed in riverine operations on the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Naval Institute Press, and the Center for Naval Analysis asked him to speak at the U.S. Naval Academy about lessons learned from past riverine operations and their applications in the 21st century. He then wrote a chapter on leadership for a book for the U.S. Naval War College. Following these contributions, Dr. Dunnavent co-authored a work about riverine operations in the Vietnam Conflict with the U.S. Navy Department's Director of the Naval History and Heritage Command. Later he spoke with 4MARDIV (4th Marine Division, New Orleans) discussing how leadership can make the Marines more lethal on the battlefield.
