Financial Aid Summer Application
The form below is for students who currently do not have summer aid. Please check to see if you DO NOT have summer aid on myLSUS showing in the summer column before completing this form. Login to myLSUS>Financial Aid>Awards. Online accelerated graduate students do not need to complete a summer aid application.
To be awarded financial aid for the summer:
- All students (excluding TOPS recipients)
You must have completed a 2023-24 FAFSA.
You must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

You may have remaining Pell Grant funds for the summer semester if you were not enrolled full-time during the 2023-24 academic year. If you were full-time during the 2023-24 academic year, an additional 50% of your annual scheduled Pell Award may be used, but you must be enrolled at least 6 credit hours during summer.
If you borrowed the maximum loan amount allowed during the 2023-24 academic year you will not have remaining funds.

If eligible, you must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
Traditional graduate students must be enrolled in six credit hours of graduate coursework.
If you are applying for a student loan for the first time, you must complete Entrance Counseling and a Master Promissory Note at studentaid.gov.
- TOPS Summer Criteria
- Student has earned at least 60 hours prior to summer session, OR
- Summer session is required enrollment in the degree program and student is enrolled in no less than the minimum number of hours required for that degree, OR
- Degree program’s graduation requirement can be completed during the summer session, OR
- Course taken is required for graduation and is only offered during summer session, OR
- Summer session is conducted for nonacademic program a student is enrolled in.
Email finaid@lsus.edu if you meet the above criteria and would like to use TOPS for the summer. However, summer funding has not been confirmed at this time.
- Work-study is available for summer 2024
- Visiting students are not eligible for financial aid
- For Financial Aid purposes, summer enrollment status for undergraduate students is defined as follows:
FULL-TIME ENROLLMENT = 12 credit hours
HALF-TIME ENROLLMENT = 6 credit hours
FINANCIAL AID WILL BE AWARDED AFTER YOU HAVE REGISTERED FOR SUMMER CLASSES. YOU MUST BE ENROLLED IN AT LEAST 6 CREDIT HOURS TO RECEIVE STUDENT LOANS. THEREFORE, YOU WILL NOT BE AWARDED A LOAN IF YOU ARE REGISTERED IN LESS THAN 6 CREDIT HOURS FOR THE SUMMER. IF YOUR ENROLLMENT PLANS CHANGE AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN AWARDED, CONTACT THE FINANCIAL AID OFFICE IMMEDIATELY.
