LPN

The LSUS LPN program has helped more than 550 students become Licensed Practical Nurses! The LSUS LPN program is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nursing.

The LSUS Practical Nursing Program is a 12-month certification program under The College of Education and Human Development. The mission of the LSUS PN program is to prepare students to provide quality professional care to clients in hospitals, physician’s offices and clinics, long term care facilities or where nursing services are required under the direction of a Licensed Physician, Optometrist, Dentist, or Registered Nurse. The LSUS LPN program is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nursing and has maintained 100% pass rate on the NCLEX. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students will be prepared to sit for the National Licensor Exam for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN).

Program Schedule

The LSUS PN program offers 2 Day classes per year. One in January and August. Classes are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Clinicals from 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM with a total of 1,540 clock hours (730 Theory and 810 Clinical).

*LSUS PN Program no longer offers Evening Programs or classes.

Program Application

We will begin accepting applications for the Spring 2025 Class on September 9, 2024. The deadline to apply is October 14, 2024. Orientation will being on Friday, January 10, 2025, and classes to start on Monday, January 13, 2025.

Applications can be picked up and dropped off at the Nursing Office, Technology Center-Rm 141 on the LSU Shreveport campus at One University Place. How to Apply

Complete and pay $20 to process the LSUS PN application. This is available in the nursing office in the LSUS Technology Center-Room 141.

The following documents are required:

  • Driver’s License/ Photo Identification Card
  • Official/ (Certified) Birth Certificate or passport with raised seal
  • Official/ (Certified) high school transcripts/GED
  • Official/ (Certified) transcripts from any colleges, universities or technical schools
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA-2.5 on high school or college transcript
  • Official/ (Certified) scores on standardized testing (ACCUPLACER, ACCUPLACER NEXT GEN, TABE, ACT); these scores should not be more than 3 years old.
  • Applications will not be accepted without test scores.

Invitations for Interviews will be emailed to candidates who submit complete applications on or before the deadline.

ACCUPLACER Testing

We do not offer Accuplacer testing in the Nursing Department, but you can call the Continuing Education office at 318-798-4177 or click here to schedule a test.

Testing appointments must be scheduled in advance and can be rescheduled only once. Testing fees are non-refundable. No refunds will be issued for any reason once a test has started. No refunds are issued for missed appointments.

To request your official PRACTICAL NURSING Transcript, please print and complete the form linked below. After completing all fields, sign, date and then mail or fax the completed form to nursing@lsus.edu. Official requests are processed as quickly as possible and are usually processed within 5-7 business days of receipt of the request. Each transcript request costs $5.00 and is payable by cash or money order. Checks are not accepted. Failure to complete all sections on the request form may cause a delay in processing.
